Space Derby

To mix things up with our Cub Scout Pack we decided to run a Space Derby.  We've run several Rain Gutter Regattas since I've been Cub Master and will do so again in November.

This space derby should be interesting.  Much like the pinewood derby the design has all to do with winning and not so much your ability to blow or the like.

We've even decided to make a more family friendly event and have races for the adults.   I've seen many a complaint out there that the fathers not have the chance to place their grand designs into action.  Remember since this is an event for cub scouts the boy gets the final say.

A great example of this getting out of hand is the down and derby film. One father just about loses his job and several have their families move out on them around the time they decide to do some illegal breaking and entering to acquire the world record holding cart and reverse engineer it.

We are even going to have some food and contests for best Alien and Space Traveler outfits.

Now the only thing we have to figure out is: A) is it better to do the track system they provide in the den-leader how book or B) just string the line across the gym and fasten it to the present hook holding up the pads on either side of the room?

Stay tuned in the future for more on this event.  We may even have space academy ID cards depending on what we can pull off.
